1955 brought the Rolex GMT-Master, made for Pan Am pilots crossing time zones, and the IWC Ingenieur, built to resist magnetism at a time when more and more people worked around electrical equipment. Both were answers to how the world was actually changing.
The everyday watches of 1955 are quieter than that, and better value for it: slim cases, applied gold markers, and movements that a competent watchmaker can still service today.
