1952 is the year Breitling introduced the Navitimer, with its slide rule bezel for pilots doing arithmetic in the air. Very few watches from the year were that specialised. The everyday watch of 1952 was a small manual dress piece, often with a gold-plated case over brass.

Look closely at the dial on anything from this era. It is the component that cannot be honestly restored, and a good one is the difference between a watch worth wearing and a project.
