A 2004 watch was made when brands were competing hardest on finishing at the middle of the market: applied indices, sunburst dials, polished and brushed surfaces on the same case.

That effort has aged well. Held next to a comparable modern watch at the same price, a good 2004 piece often looks the better made of the two.
