Watches from 1991 mark the point where quartz stopped trying to prove anything. The technology was mature, the novelty was over, and design went back to looking like a watch: round case, applied markers, a date at three.

Case sizes were still modest, mostly 34 to 36mm, which is the range that has come back into fashion. A 1991 watch often reads as more contemporary than something from ten years later.
