What the Gucci 2000L is

The 2000L is the small, round, gold-plated ladies' quartz watch that Gucci sold in large numbers through the 1990s, around 21 to 22mm across, with a black dial and gold markers or a white dial with Roman numerals, usually on a slim leather strap. Its numbers make it the most common vintage Gucci we handle and the easiest to find in good condition, and the price reflects that: it is the affordable way into the name.

What to check on a vintage Gucci

Gucci's watches of the 1980s and 1990s were made in Switzerland by specialist partners, so the first thing to look for is the case-back: the reference number, "Swiss made" and a serial should all be stamped cleanly, not printed. Plating wears first on the bangle hinge, the case edges and the bracelet clasp, so look there for brassing before anywhere else. Dials should be crisp with even printing; a smudged logo or misaligned index is a warning sign.
