What the Gucci 1500L is

The 1500L is Gucci's small ladies' bangle watch of the 1990s: a hinged bangle that opens to slip over the wrist, carrying a narrow rectangular dial the width of a fingertip. It came gold-plated with a black, white or cream dial, and in polished stainless steel with a white dial, always with a Swiss quartz movement. It is the model most people picture when they think of a vintage Gucci watch, and the one we are asked for most.

Because the bangle is the bracelet, fit matters more than on a strap watch: the bangle sizes are fixed and the hinge is the part that takes wear. The examples we have handled are described individually below with their condition, dial colour and finish.

What to check on a vintage Gucci

Gucci's watches of the 1980s and 1990s were made in Switzerland by specialist partners, so the first thing to look for is the case-back: the reference number, "Swiss made" and a serial should all be stamped cleanly, not printed. Plating wears first on the bangle hinge, the case edges and the bracelet clasp, so look there for brassing before anywhere else. Dials should be crisp with even printing; a smudged logo or misaligned index is a warning sign.

Every example we sell is inspected, tested and photographed in natural light before it is listed, with any wear described in the listing rather than left for you to find. A fresh battery is fitted to each quartz piece.

Guide · 8 min readWhat is my vintage Gucci watch worth? Most vintage Gucci watches are worth between £80 and £350, and the reference on the caseback narrows that further than anything else about the watch. Here are the honest ranges, what moves them, and what a dealer will actually pay.Guide · 9 min readGucci watch model numbers explainedEvery vintage Gucci carries a code on its caseback: 2000L, 3900L, 112. It identifies the watch far better than the name on the dial does. Here is how to read it, and what the 104 we have handled tell us about each family.

Frequently asked questions

What size is a Gucci 1500L?

It is a small watch by design: the dial is narrow and rectangular, roughly the width of a fingertip, on a fixed-size hinged bangle. Each listing gives the measured case width and the inside bangle circumference so you can check it against your wrist.

Is the Gucci 1500L real gold?

No. The gold-tone 1500L is gold-plated over a base metal case and bangle, which is why plating wear at the hinge and edges is the usual condition point. The steel version is polished stainless steel.

How much is a Gucci 1500L worth?

The 8 examples we have handled have been priced between £110 and £250. Condition makes the difference: an unpolished case, a crisp original dial and the original box all move a piece towards the top of that range. We currently have 3 available from £110.

Is the Gucci 1500L available to buy?

Yes. 3 examples are in stock now, inspected and photographed in London, with free UK delivery and 14-day returns.

What variations of the Gucci 1500L exist?

Among the examples we have handled: grey, gold, black, white dials; quartz movements. 2 came with the original box. All of ours have dated to the 1990s.
