What the dollar price includes

American buyers are often quoted a UK price with a warning that customs will add an unknown amount on arrival. We do the opposite for the United States. Every price shown to a US visitor is delivered duty paid: we prepay the postage and the US import duty when the parcel is posted, so a watch that shows as $420 costs $420 at your door. The carrier will not ask you for a payment.

Vintage watches are strong value from the UK because the domestic market here is deep and unfashionable brands are still cheap. A well-kept 1970s Seiko automatic or a slim Swiss dress watch that would be marked up heavily in a US boutique tends to sit at everyday money in London, and the sterling price is what the dollar price is built from.

How the watches are selected and checked

We buy individual watches, not job lots. Each piece is chosen because the dial, case and movement justify it, then inspected, tested and photographed in natural light in our London studio. Condition is graded honestly from Fair to Mint, and any notable wear is described in plain English in the listing. Quartz watches get a fresh battery; mechanical watches are wound and checked.

The collection centres on 1960s to 1990s Seiko, Tissot, Certina and Raymond Weil, with Swiss dress watches and Gucci fashion pieces from the 1980s and 1990s, and the occasional Omega or Longines at the top of the range. Most of it sits between £100 and £500 in sterling.
